BASTIA V RENNES STATS AND FACTS

Bastia went up to the 13^th position after two wins in a row over Nancy and Reims. When playing at home, they are 5-0-4, but it is irrelevant here as the game will be played in Gueugnon (860km away from Bastia) after several issues with Corsicans fans. Bastia already played its last “home game” there and won 4-2 against Nancy.

Rennes are 6^th of this Ligue 1. In their first game after the winter break, they lost 2-0 at home against Bordeaux. When playing away, they have a good record of 5-1-4. Rennes also played on Wednesday in the Coupe de la Ligue semi-final. They went through after beating Montpellier 2-0.

During the winter break, Bastia managed to sign Mickael Landreau, the former Lille’s goalkeeper, who decided to leave following issues with his former coach and staff. He has over 500 games in Ligue 1 and is known for being a player with a positive team spirit. It will be a big asset for Bastia in this second half of season.

In Rennes, Yann M’Vila is expected to join the Premier League very soon. QPR seems really interested and the player is willing to leave as well. He has a huge potential but he had some behaviour problems (football wise as well as in his personal life) and a new challenge might be good for him. But other players like Allessandrini and Julien Feret showed that they had what it takes to run Rennes’ midfield.

If Bastia didn’t have 3 days more than their guests to rest and prepare this fixture, I would have backed Rennes with a high confidence.
