BARCELONA V BAYERN MUNICH PREDICTIONS

Is there anyway back for Barcelona in this tie or will Bayern show that there has been a change at the top of European football from Spain to Germany?

The first leg had Bayern as favourites as the home side but I don’t think anyone expected the absolute dominance they showed throughout the whole match where they made Barcelona look like amateurs.

Barcelona managed to control possession like they do in every match but they were unable to turn that into chances on goal while Bayern where happy to concede the ball and then play direct balls forward quickly on the break and exploit Barcelona’s failings at the back.  The first half saw just one goal from Thomas Muller, which gave Barcelona hope that they could level the match or at least go back to Barcelona just one goal behind.

The second half is where we saw the strength of Bayern take over and they were awesome.  They wasted little time scoring the second goal through Mario Gomez within just 5 minutes of the restart.  This should have been a wakeup call to Barcelona but it looked like Bayern were the more likely team to score again and they did that through Arjen Robben in the 73^rd minute and then wrapped up an astonishing 4-0 win with Thomas Muller getting his second goal with 10 minutes remaing.

It has been reported as a passing of the torch from Barcelona to Bayern for the most dominant team in Europe and it is hard to argue with that when you watch the game.  I don’t think Barcelona are finished as many have been saying and they will come back strong next year but Bayern have to be seen as at least their equals now going forward.

Both teams rested a number of players at the weekend but still played strong sides.  Bayern managed a 1-0 win over Hoffenheim while Barcelona drew 2-2 at Athletic Bilbao to postpone their title winning party for another week.

Barcelona may play Eric Abidal as centre back in this match after he came through another 45 minutes at the weekend.  Messi played for just 30minutes off the bench but looked nearer full fitness and scored a stunning goal.  Bayern will still be without Toni Kroos but will have Mario Mandzukic back from suspension and he will likely start.
