One of the surprise results of the 1^st legs was Hibernians of Malta beating Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-1. In the early parts of 1^st half the Israeli’s were all over the Maltese and I was looking forward to payout as they took a 1 goal lead and threatened a few. My bet of -1.5 was looking good until about the half hour mark when the tables turned. Hibernians boast a contingent of Brazilians and they started to find their range and the momentum shifted. 2^nd half was pretty even until the later stages when two well worked goals gave the Maltese a famous victory.  Malta football is for sure on the up with Birkirkara narrowly losing to EPL’s West Ham 1-0 to back up the claim.  Now Maccabi at home will be a different story but the handicap is massive here and set at 2.75 goals! Maccabi are 21 times national champions with the last three in a row. In Europe they are showing 83 games with 31 wins, 20 draws and 32 losses. They are ranked at 104 by UEFA which granted is quite high. Recent years have seen defeats to Maribor (Slovenia) and Asteras (Greece) - Hibs of Malta are 11 times winners of the league with  3 of those since 2000. In Europe they have a low ranking of 415 by UEFA. Overall results show 71 games with 9 wins, 9 draws and 53 defeats.

A 2-1 win in Malta for Hibs was an excellent result but the bookmakers think they will collapse in Isreal. Looking at the game though there wasn’t a  great deal between the sides. A huge gap in the rankings granted. Maccabi should win but with a +2.75 goal start its well worth taking a  punt on Hibs. We get paid on the Hibernians win and draw plus a 1 and 2 goal loss! A 3 goal loss sees half stakes returned so it looks a great bet to me.
