It’s the UCL proper as all the big names join the fray. Here we have two of the lesser lights though.  We move to Hungary as Videoton host BATE Borisov. The Hungarians are only 2 times winner of the league and both successes came recently in 2011 and last year. They do have European pedigree though as they reached a UEFA cup final in the 80’s. Overall European results show 54 games with 19 wins, 13 draws and 22 losses. This year they struggled over two legs to get past Welsh part timers TNS – scraping through 2-1. Last year they lost to Podgorica of Montenegro.  They have had a turgid opening to their league programme also with 2 games and 2 losses and no goal scored.  They hold a ranking of 201 by UEFA in Europe. BATE Borisov from Belarus are generally always competitive. They progressed through the earlier round by beating Dundalk 2-1 over two legs. This is a good comparison to Videoton as Dundalk are pretty much at the level of TNS playing wise – but are much better fitness wise as being way into their season. BATE are 14 games into their own league and are unbeaten with 12 wins and 2 draws. They have taken their own title a record 11 times – including the last 9 consecutively.  Last year they beat the Hungarian champions Debrecen at this same level 3-2 on aggregate – as well as wins over Skenderbeu and Slovan Bratislava to take them to a Group Stage appearance. They are ranked at 63 by UEFA.

Hungary plays Belarus and it may surprise you to see the odds so close together. Videton have little recent history of progressing through European competition though and BATE do. This will be set up for BATE to defend and keep things tight were they know they can cause problems back home. 1^st legs are always tricky as the home side doesn’t want to concede. I take BATE on draw no bet at Evens or 2.00.
