AZ Alkmaar are the outsiders for the competition, and must make home advantage count here against last years beaten finalists Benfica. Only seventh in the Dutch league, it hasn’t been a great season for AZ, though a first European trophy would certainly change that. Unbeaten through their group with twelve points, and knockout wins against Liberec and Anzhi have got them to this stage, but this is sure to be tougher. Benfica are top of the league in Portugal, and after falling into Europa from Champions league they have seen off PAOK and Tottenham to get here. A very good side with every chance of going all the way this year, Benfica should have too much class for AZ over two legs. Defenders Wuytens and Marcellis are suspended and injured respectively for AZ, while Benfica have Perez(mid) suspended and injury concerns for keeper Artur.
