FRANCE V NIGERIA: PREDICTIONS AND BETTING TIPS

The impressive unbeaten French meet Nigeria in a last sixteen game that should provide an entertaining encounter in Brasilia.

FRANCE: STORY SO FAR

France began with an easy 3-0 victory over Honduras, where the result was never in doubt especially after the Hondurans were down to ten men after forty minutes. Benzema grabbed a couple here and Griezmann and Pogba impressed.

Next up it was main group rivals Switzerland, and a 5-2 scoreline actually flattered the Swiss as France were unlucky not to have seven. Pogba and Griezmann so impressive in the opener started on the bench here to highlight the depth of the squad and two goals in a minute in the first half made it a stroll for France. The only negative was the two late goals conceded which highlighted concerns over the strength of the French defence when up against the real big guns. All in all it was another impressive display though.

Last up was Ecuador, and with qualification already assured the French, though still easily the better side, where somewhat wasteful in the 0-0 draw. Ecuador played the last forty minutes with ten men so it was a little disappointing that France failed to find a winner, and they will need to be more clinical in the later rounds.

NIGERIA: STORY SO FAR

Nigeria opened up with a 0-0 draw against Iran, and despite enjoying 72%possession they could not break down a resolute Iranian defence and had to settle for what looked a disappointing point at the time.

Second up was the make or break game with Bosnia, and despite being second best overall the Nigerians came out winners 1-0 thanks to an Odemwingie goal in the first half.

In the final group match Nigeria lost 3-2 to Argentina but showed real character in coming from behind twice, and caused Argentina plenty of problems. Ahmed Musa scored both Nigerian goals here and proved a real headache on the right for the Argentine defence.

TEAM NEWS:

Midfielder Cabaye is available again for France after suspension, while Sakho(def) is a minor injury doubt. Nigeria defender Oboabona is an injury doubt, but he has yet to feature in any game.

RUN OF PLAY:

France have been exciting to watch with a dynamic midfield and potent attack looking capable of damaging any side. Defensively though they look suspect despite having the exceptional Lloris in goal. Nigeria showed against Bosnia and especially Argentina that they can do some damage going forward, and any joy for them will come trying to exploit any French defensive deficiencies with quick counter attacks. Argentina put three past them though, and France look more than capable of doing the same so in my view they are rightly heavy favourites to progress to the next round. Nigeria have done well to get to the knockout stage, but it would be a major shock to me if they could beat the French.
