World Cup 2018 qualifying begins and it’s South America we go to open up.  Bolivia host the 1^st game and its up in the clouds in La Paz. They are always worth an interest at home especially against the other low lying nations. In the last qualifying they finished 2^nd bottom with 12 points from 16 games. At home they managed to beat Paraguay 2-1 and smashed today’s opposition 4-1. They drew with Argentina, Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador. Indeed at home only Chile and Colombia beat them.  Uruguay finished 5^th in the same qualifiers and had to playoff to get to Brazil. Overall they finished with 7 wins, 4 draws and 5 losses. Away form was terrible with 3 draws and 5 losses and without a single victory. Recent head to heads see 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. Big news for this one is a few key players are out for Bolivia. Ronald Raldes (89/2) and Marcelo Moreno (55/14) both refuse selection. This news is tempered by the fact that Uruguay miss £100 million strike force Suarez and Cavani due to suspension. Old heads Walter Gargano, Jorge Fucile and Gaston Ramirez are all left out as Tabarez opts for some new blood here.  Tabarez himself will not be able to lead the team as he too is suspended.

 

Big men out for both sides here but I always consider Bolivia at home. Stadium Hernando Silas is 3.6km above sea level and a terrible experience to anyone not used to altitude. Like the entire Uruguayan team for instance.
