Colombia v Peru preview

Colombia head into this tie 2nd in the South American Group after their 0-0 away game (as we predicted) to Argentina. Colombia is 3-1-1 (13-3) at home so far in the qualification. The Colombia side will pretty much consist of the same players that played Argentina recently. Zapata of Milan will miss in defense though as he was sent off (at the same time as Higuain of Argentina) last match day.

Peru have back to back wins, against Equador and Chile, both at home. Away from home they're 1-0-4 (5-12) so far. The side has some decent players in Juan Manuel Vargas (Fiorentina), Claudio Pizarro (Bayern M), Paolo Guerro (Corinthians) and Jefferson Farfan (Schalke). These players all contribute mainly to the offense.

Colombia won 1-0 in Peru in the reverse fixture. That was a relatively uneventful game until Peru allowed Colombia to score after a horrible mistake. After the goal Colombia controlled the game home.I expect Colombia to take the game to Peru here and really unleash Falcao, Jackson Martinez and James Rodriguez on the Peru defense. The visitors will try to stay compact and deny the world class Colombian offense any space. They have players that can hurt Colombia on the break too, that is their chance.

Colombia v Peru Betting Tips

Colombia are massive favorites to win this game. One can't blame the bookies for putting up 1/3 (1.33)! People will back the home side here blindly. Also at home in Qualification they've been pretty good lately. Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay were defeated with a goal difference of 11-0. It must be said those sides have been poor this qualification.

Looking more in depth at this game one could say it is more open than the odds indicate: Peru actually beat Colombia back in 2011 in the Copa America. Back in 2010 the sides drew in Colombia in a Friendly match. Peru has also improved their form as of late with two very controlled displays against number 3 and 4 in the group.

I am not going to speculate against Colombia in the 1x2 market. I much rather go with Peru +1.5 on the Asian Handicap line. The price is available at BET365 at 1.75 (3/4). I do think they have the potential to hold Colombia quite at bay like they did at home. Colombia will be wary of the counter attack threat, and most likely not go gung-ho on the visitors. This looks like a winner!
