PERU - ECUADOR PREDICTIONS

Conmebol Qualifying in South America sees Peru host Ecuador in a massive game for both sides. Lima is the setting for this game but both sides will be used to the high altitude

Peru have not been great in this qualifying tournament, but such is the length of the section we still have 7 games left and they are only 4 points behind Venezuela in the playoff place. They have to start winning though and that’s something they have struggled to do so far. After 11 games they sit 7^th and last with 3wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats. With 11 goals scored and 15 conceded they have underachieved so fare in a bit of trouble. Peru reinvigorated their side a few years ago and injected a lot of fresh blood at the same time. They have generally kept faith with those players and although Guerrero and Farfan were ostracized for breaking curfews a few years back they did return and both have repaid the faith with goals. Claudio Pizarro is there too so its an ultra attacking three they have to choose from. Best midfielder would be the winger Juan Vargas, decent dead ball ability and a superb left foot. The defence isn’t the best in the section but they do have some promising youngsters. Outside of World Cup qualifying Paraguay are actually in exceptional form. Take them away from their stronghold and they have yet to win in this qualifying tournament with 2 draws and 2 losses. Ecuador have a +11 goal difference at home and -5 away. They have good form in friendly matches with 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. 4 wins from 4 at home again in these low key games so you can see that they are to be respected against anyone on their own patch. Key men so far for Ecuador have been Felipe Caicedo and Cristian Benitez, with 9 of Ecuadors 16 goals between them. The superb 100% record at home has lifted them to 2^nd position in the table with 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. They are only 4 points behind Argentina and even have a game in hand.
