BARCELONA - MALAGA PREDICTIONS

Barcelona host Malaga on final game day in Spain Primera. With a win Barce can end the season on the magical 100 points total while Malaga have nothing but pride to play for after their European ban for next season.

Barcelona have the title sewn up and grab their 22nd  Primera title, they try to end on a high for their fans and grab a 100 points total for the fun of it. Barcelona domestically were untouchable with 31 wins, 4 draws and just 2 defeats all season. At Camp Nou they were on a different level with 17 wins and a solitary draw (against Real Madrid) they finished with a home goal difference of  +45 and after averaging 3 goals a game all season you can see the problem all the opposition have.  The Barce side is an ultra attacking unit and they hardly even focus on the backline. With Dani Alves and Jordi Alba operating as extra wingers and midfielder Javier Mascherano taking a central defensive berth you can see why they had problems against the elite. However in Spain they usually take the game to the opposition and with Xavi and Iniesta showing no signs of letting up they are dominating the home scene. Other players are not reaching the levels for me though with Alexis Sanchez failing and even Cesc Fabregas struggling at times. David Villa is a shadow of the once lethal marksman and even though Pedro is a decent option he is hardly world class. Lionel Messi is as usual head and shoulders above everyone else in Pichichi but he has hardly had a vintage year. Going missing in big games and struggling at times to show the sheer class we know he has. Saying all that a return of 46 goals from just 32 matches is not that bad is it? Formwise Barce where ok with 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats but like Madrid they do have a penchant for conceding sloppy goals. 17 goals scored and 14 conceded is not the greatest of defensive statistics.

Malaga nearly had the season to end all seasons as they were a minute or so away from Champions League semi finals until they conceded twice in injury time to eventual runners up Dortmund. Malaga were thrust into the world football limelight after another sheik with money to burn landed and starting throwing the cash around. The difference for the side from the Costa del Sol was these Sheiks did not have the deep pockets of others. Problems started with unpaid wages and non appearances of their board members. The fire sale of a key men such as Santi Carzorla was a sign all was not well and indeed his transfer fee went on other players wages shows they were in bother. However they ended up nearly surpassing all expectations but ultimately ran out of gas. The Champions League run affected the Primera showing but in the end it all proved for nothing as UEFA confirmed they were to be denied entry to any UEFA competition for flouting the new debt rules. Key man and likely to leave next for Malaga is wunderkind Isco, likely to follow outgoing boss (and genius) Manuel Pellegrini  to Man City. Skipper Welligton was a rock at the back, while Joaquin rolled back the years in wide positions. Understandably Malaga fell apart after the Dortmund match and with the UEFA ruling confirmed they were playing for nothing. As well as playing for nothing they were actually playing for nothing as paid wages became a problem again. Confidence was on the floor and results were poor. They had 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats, scoring 9 but conceding 14. Indeed in the last 10 games they conceded 4, 5 and 6 goals in separate matches in a terrible defensive run.

BARCELONA - MALAGA: BETTING TIPS

This should be a straight forward win for Barcelona but again the odds are restrictive. No-one  will hardly get rich from the 1x2 price of 1.22. We have to look at the side markets for the value. I expect a few goals for the home side, while Malaga are letting in goals at an alarming rate to teams nowhere near the class of Barcelona. I see an avalanche of goals for the home side and look to the Barcelona -2 (2.05 bet365) Malaga say farewell to Pellegrini for sure and more than likely a large chunk of the 1st team squad. In this game they may have hoped to leave a little earlier.
