Italian Serie A Saturday matches

By admin-alf on August 22, 2015 in Football, Sports

The Italian Serie A is finally starting back up again, with the season’s first two matches being played today. Continue reading for more information - but as always, remember to also check our predictions page for all our latest free football predictions!

Verona v Roma

The first match is between Verona and Roma, two teams that are expected to fight in opposite ends of the league table. Last season was not a very impressive one for Verona, but they did finish in 13th place well ahead of the relegation line. Their coach Mandorlini is looking to establish the club in the Serie A, so in this regard the season result is a positive one. Luca Toni was the league top scorer last season, impressive for a 38 year old, and he is of course an important player for the club! New additions to the club include midfielders Viviani and Siligardi (from Roma and Livorno), and the attacker Pazzini (free transfer from Milan). Pisano, former defender for Palermo, has also been brought in.

Three midfielders are considered doubtful for today's match.

Roma is expected to fight in the top, and is the bookies second favourite to take the league title. Over the last two seasons, Roma is also the club that has given Juventus some fight for the title, at least for part of the season as Roma ended 17 points behind Juventus on both occasions. The club has not lost any important players during the summer, but made some new signings that will improve the squad. Sczecny is on loan from Arsenal and we expect he will be first goalie. Another improvement will be attacker Dzeko from Manchester City.

Midfielder Strootman and attacker Iturbe are unavailable for todays' match.

Roma is naturally the favourite for this match, if you fancy a bet on them then BetVictor is offering 3/4 (1.75). Best price for Roma to take the league title ahead of Juventus is 7/1 (8.0) by Coral.

Lazio v Bologna

Lazio is hosting Bologna in the second match of the day. Lazio performed above expectations last season, as they finished on third place and earned a Champions League qualification spot. They have not impressed much in the pre-season build up, losing four matches in a row (friendlies against Vicenza, Anderlecht and Mainz, plus Italian Super Cup against Juventus). But last week they managed a good 1-0 win at home in the Champions League qualification against Bayer Leverkusen.

They have lost their former captain Mauri over the summer. Last season saw midfielders Anderson and Biglia, plus defender De Vrij making strong contributions, and these players are still with the club. In addition, the forward Basta has been bought free from loan agreement from Udinese. Among new signings, it will be interesting to see how Kishna (attacker from Ajax), Milinkovic-Savic (midfielder from Genk), and Morrison (troublemaker/midfielder from West Ham) will perform for the club.

For tonight’s match De Vrij, Klose and Djordjevic are all unavailable due to injuries.

Bologna is newly promoted from Serie B, and will probably have a hard time fighting off the relegation line this season. They have made one big signing very recently, attacker Destro (from Roma, recently played on loan to Milan). Besides him, they have interesting additions in Rossetini, Crisetig and Rizzo. The forward MBaye played well last season when he was on loan from Inter, and he has signed permanently with Bologna now. Krsticic was on loan from Sampdoria and the deal has not been renewed, so at the moment it looks like he will return to Sampdoria. For tonight’s match they have Mbaye suspended, and Gastadello is injured.

This looks like a home win, if you agree you can get 1/2 (1.50) with BET365.
