Spain v Russia U21 Predictions

Spain are title defenders, and had a great Qualification campaign with seven wins and one draw before Denmark was demolished in the playoff. They have a fantastic squad. In goal Manchester United's De Gea is known to most. In defense Bartra and Montoya of Barcelona have been solid, and also gotten games for Barca's side this season. I'd say their best midfielders are Malagas Isco with Alacantra of Barcelona. Canales (Valencia) and Muniain (Bilbao) are excellent players too. Up front Moreno (Benfica) has been fantastic.

Russia are coming in after winning their Qualification group ahead of Portugal. They finished off the Czech Republic in the playoff. Their squad is based on domestic players, but Cherysev of Real Madrid is proof of the level Russian youth football is at. The Russians will however greatly miss Smolov of Anzhi. He is a class striker that has scored goals for fun at this level. Another top player in Dzagoev of CSKA won't take part either.

Betting Tips

Spain will here meet a side that also is very comfortable with the ball at their feet. Unlike the Russian Seniors who are really compact this Russian side likes to pour forward. That works pretty well against most sides, but this Spanish side is in a league of their own. No matter how Russia approaches this game Spain will be massive favorites.

1.76 (19/25) for the Over 2.5 with Betsson seems interesting. Both sides are very capable going forward,. The absence of Smolov might reduce the probability of a high scoring somewhat. That said Kokorin of Dinamo Moscow has been in great form domestically with 10 goals in 22 matches. He could be given more playing time here even if he hasn't been fielded since October. Even if Smolov is out these sides will create chances, and I think only poor converting will stand in the way of this bet being a winning one.

In the last fourteen U21 games Spain has scored +1.5 goals a whopping 11 times indicating the odds should be about 1.36, but Betsson has 61/100 (1.61) I am quite sure Betsson has applied a model weighing in that tournaments are tighter.
