All South American classic here as host nation Brazil take on the exciting Colombians. Brazil sneaked through on penalties against Chile while Colombia breezed past Uruguay. Neymar will need to up his game as he was anonymous for large parts of the Chile game. James was the star man again and he is currently leading the chase for the Golden Boot.

BRAZIL SO FAR IN THE WORLD CUP

A mixture of the good and the bad so far for Brazil. Against Cameroon and Croatia they looked full of ideas and attacking intent. Yet against Mexico and Chile they struggled for long periods. Its no surprise to me that in the two games against the Americas sides Neymar didn’t perform. He really is intergrel to the side. Fred was rubbish again against Chile and really needs to be benched. Hulk played his best game to date in the last match and I wonder if Big Phil will chance him in the central role. Chile’s immense energy caused Brazil problems but Chile will do that to most teams. Two wins and two draws so far with 8 goals scored and 3 conceded. 

 

COLOMBIA SO FAR IN THE WORLD CUP

Colombia have won all four games so far, although the level of opponent isn’t as high as Brazil. However Colombia have looked strong in all areas. They took apart Greece, Japan and Colombia. Only looking a bit more conservative against Ivory Coast.  Colombia have the highest scorer in the competition with James Rodriguez  with five goals. They do have plenty of options in attack to supplement him. Colombia are well organized, pacey and competitive.  They have four wins from four with 11 goals scored and 2 conceded.

TEAM NEWS

No injury news for either side as yet. We should see the same Colombian side here as normal. Everyone is predicting Fred to makeway up front for Brazil but Phil Scolari is very stubborn and I actually see Fred retaining his place. More information when it becomes available.

RUN OF PLAY

This will be a lower tempo to the Brazil v Chile game. Colombia pose a different threat to Chile but Brazil will have to on top of their game. I think Brazil will improve massively after the wake up call that was a penalty win. Colombia have yet to face anyone who has had a real go at them and  I think we will see an entertaining game here.

A close game between two tops sides in world football. Brazil have yet to hit top gear and for me that is the most important aspect. Colombia has been playing at a high level but can they elevate their game against the hosts? Colombia will also lose a lot of their very noisy support.
