Swansea are 11^th in the Premier League and have 8 points to their name so far (W2 D2 L3). They won their first two matches but haven’t scored 3 points since as their form reads DLLLD. Their home form is WDLD, most recently coming from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Reading. Their games average 3.29 goals and all but two have been over 2.5 goals; all of their home games have seen at least three goals.

Wigan lie 15^th with 5 points from their opening 7 matches (W1 D2 L4) and currently have the same form as their opponents of DLLLD. Their only win came away from home; 3-0 against Southampton but since they’ve scored no goals and no points with 4-0 and 1-0 defeats to Man Utd and Sunderland respectively. Their games have seen fewer goals at an average of 2.86 but still four of those matches saw over 2.5 goals.

Swansea have no new injury concerns for this game and could welcome back Kemy Agustien after a short absence. Kyle Bartley and Neil Taylor are long-term injuries. Wigan have a clean bill of health if Alcaraz can be passed fit for the game. I suspect he may need another week or so for full fitness.

Swansea started the season very brightly and looked a good outside bet to finish well inside the top half but things have since gone downhill. Reports have stated that many Swansea players aren’t happy with Michael Laudrup’s training regime and there may be a rift in the camp. All things aside they have attempted to continue with the style of play that Brendan Rodgers had them playing last season and they seem to be able to create chances in that way. Their issue is at the back. Will they be able to contain the Wigan strikers?

Wigan have struggled so far this season. An away win early on hasn’t been built upon, either home or away, and they may need their usual end of season spurt to avoid another intense relegation battle. They tend not to be a high scoring side and often see themselves conceding goals in the games where they do find the net.

I think Swansea will try and continue any momentum they had from their comeback at home to Reading last time out. They probably have the players to outclass Wigan but it really does depend on what Swansea turn up. It might be the return of the slick passing, quick moving Swansea from the start of the season or it could be the sloppy Swansea we’ve seen in recent weeks. Wigan need to improve their defensive record soon or they will have a struggling season once again.

I think the fact that Swansea score goals at home is worrying for Wigan supporters. Their team doesn’t look assured at the back and I think Michu’s late surging runs into the box will be the undoing of Roberto Martinez’s side. Dyer and Routledge will supply some good balls into the box and Wigan may struggle in dealing with their pace too. If Arouna Kone can continue his recent form then perhaps Wigan may snatch a goal but for me it’s Swansea who’ll get the 3 points.
