Bordeaux is missing defender Sane and central midfielder Plasil. They are also missing Diabate on top. None of these players featured in the 2-2 draw against PSG last weekend, but they are solid players I would have liked to see in the starting XI tonight. Bordeaux is otherwise fielding a strong team, and coach Sagnol has said that the Europa League is important for the club.
Liverpool is still missing captain Henderson (central midfield). Millner, another central midfielder, plus Lucas and Allen are also unavailable. Skrtel, Lovren and Clyne will not be part of the defence, while Flannagan is still injured. Striker Benteke will not play, and Sturridge is not yet ready to play.
On paper Liverpool still has a strong team, with players like Coutinho, Lallana, Can, Gomez, Origi, Ibe, Morena, Toure, and Sakho for instance. But Rodgers might gamble a bit tonight, and it is expected that only Can and Gomez from the weekend starting XI against Manchester United will start tonight.
For me there are too many questions about Liverpool at the moment, the team is somewhat lacking in identity and the fans are not happy. The team has been through several changes, and it takes time to really settle a new team and get them to play top quality football. I am therefore betting the home win in this match, as a draw no bet.
