England Premier League Betting Tips - Newcastle vs Tottenham

By howtobet on August 15, 2012 in Football

In the best game of the weekend in the EPL we will see Newcastle take on Tottenham at St James’ Park.  With Spurs finishing 4th and Newcastle 5th last season we will see two teams with European ambitions again this year take the field with no fear to attack.

Newcastle has completed a remarkable turnaround after their relegation to the Championship and is now firmly established as a top half team again.  This is mainly due to a great scouting setup which has brought them in top talent for reasonable prices, a model they are looking to continue this year.  Newcastle has managed to hold on to their top players this year despite reported interest in Ba, Cisse and Cabaye and they will look to add more quality to the squad before the transfer window closes.

Tottenham have made a change at manager bringing in Andre Villas-Boas to replace Harry Redknapp and he hasn’t wasted any time bringing in some fresh faces to improve the squad.  Jan Vertonghen a long term target from Ajax will improve the central defence and Gylfi Sigurdsson can score goals from midfield and will be a useful addition.  The big hole in the spurs squad currently is at striker where they have lost on loan striker Adebayor who has stalled on a transfer from Manchester City due to financial demands.  The other big news is a the interest in Luka Modric which has seen the Croatian train alone and he is still expected to move to Real Madrid if the correct offer comes in.  Tottenham will desperately have to replace Modric who is one of their top talents and bring in at least one new striker if they are to make the Champions League spot in the league again this year.

Total Goals

Despite two naturally attacking teams the market sees this game being quite tight.  Under 2.5 goals is priced at 1.96 with the over at 2.01.  This may be due to Tottenham’s lack of a recognised striker, with questions over who will score their goals.

Asian Handicap

The Asian market has this is a very close game with the handicap set at 0.  Spurs are small favourites at 1.98 with Newcastle at 2.01.  This match will really depend on the line-up selection and whether Spurs can bring in any players in time for the match.
