England Premier League Betting Tips - Wigan Athletic vs Chelsea

By howtobet on August 16, 2012 in Football

Chelsea begins this EPL season full of hope after their historic Champions League win against all odds.  They will be hopeful that result can springboard them back into title contention this year and they have certainly invested heavily in the squad to achieve their goals.  They face Wigan away in the first game, a team who again survived relegation thanks to some fantastic late season form, something that is becoming almost a habit for them.

Chelsea has pulled out all the stops to build on their success last year and have splashed out some huge money on players like Eden Hazard and Oscar and their spending isn’t finished yet.  They should be a force in the league again this year and will be disappointed to finish outside the top 3 minimum.

Wigan performed more heroics last year to stay up again but when will their luck run out?  They again have lost some of their top performers with Rodallega and Diame leaving under freedom of contract and Victor Moses expected to make a move to opponents Chelsea before the transfer deadline.  Only one major signing was made with Ivan Ramis joining to shore up the defence in a €6m move.  Ryo Miyaichi the exciting Japanese winger was brought in on loan from Arsenal and is perceived as a replacement for Moses when he moves.

Total Goals

The majority of the market favours under 2.5 goals but there are some discrepancies with some books offering the under at 2.00, the majority have the under priced around 1.91 and the over at 2.01.  If you can still find the under at 2.00 then I’d suggest backing it before the price moves.

Asian Handicap

The Asian market expects a strong away performance from Chelsea, and have the handicap set at Chelsea -1 @ 2.06, with Wigan +1 @ 1.90.  Chelsea will be expected to come out and set a marker after their Champions League win and heavy investment and I don’t expect a Wigan side minus a few of their top players last season to be able to stop them.
