La Liga Primera Predictions – Levante vs Athletico Madrid

By howtobet on August 15, 2012 in Football

The final La Liga Primera game on Sunday features the two clubs who narrowly missed out on the lucrative Champions League positions from Spain, when Levante host Athletico Madrid.  We will preview the action and follow it up with predictions and any profitable betting tips we may find.

Levante lost two of their last three games and narrowly missed out on 4th place by just 3 points. They would love to be in the same position with 3 games to go this season but it’ll no doubt be a lot tougher with plenty of strong teams looking to bounce back from a poor 2011/2012 campaign.  Levante have brought in 10 players over the summer, spending just €650k, they will hope their scouting department has chosen well and the numerous new signings can improve the squad.

Athletico Madrid had an excellent end to last season remaining undefeated in their final 5 league matches and winning the Europe League with a dominating victory over Athletic Club.  They have however lost two important players over the summer in Alvaro Dominguez and Eduardo Salvio.  Maybe the most important piece of business was keeping hold of Falcao who was attracting interest from some of the top clubs in Europe, but it looks like he’ll spend at least another season in Madrid.

Total Goals

The market seems to think the match will be tight with under 2.5 goals priced at 1.87 and the over at 2.05.  With the large amount of changes in each team it will be difficult to envisage how their form will be starting the season, and often a team’s defence is more functional than it’s attack if new players are having difficulty integrating.

Asian Handicap

The Asian market has this as a tight game with slight preference to the home team.  Athletico -0.25 is priced at 2.02 with Levante a corresponding 1.92.  I believe Athletico should be more prepared for the new season, despite losing a few top players and I feel they should be aiming for a strong result in their first match at home.
