Scottish Premier League Predictions - Ross County vs Celtic

By howtobet on August 16, 2012 in Football

Celtic come into this game with the most important tie of the season starting just three days later when they determine their Champions League fate.  They must not get ahead of themselves however and will need to focus against a well organise Ross County side who have started their SPL campaign with two straight draws against tough opposition.

Celtic is odds on to win the SPL this season with their old combatants Rangers being liquidated.  They have played one SPL game so far and stumbled to a 1-0 win at home to Aberdeen, a game where they did not look sharp going forward.

Celtic have not freshened up their squad at all from last season with their only signing being Fraser Forster from Newcastle who has been on loan at Celtic for the previous two seasons.  They will await their Champions League qualifier and if they successfully dispatch Helsingborg then they will have the money available to bring in new faces.

Ross County have copped well with life in the SPL for the first time.  They have faced two tough matches, at home to Motherwell and away to Aberdeen and in both they have come away with a point after a 0-0 draw.  Their defensive organisation is the best feature of their play but they lack some quality going forward and will struggle to score goals unless something changes.

Total Goals

Celtic are normally involved in high scoring games but due to their toothless display against Aberdeen and the defensive strength of Ross County the market expects less goals than normal.  Over 2.5 goals is set at 1.95 with the under at 2.01.  Celtic are more than capable of scoring multiple goals against any team in the league but it may take time to break down a tough Ross County side.

Asian Handicap

The Asian market expects an away win with the handicap being set at Celtic -1 @ 1.86 and County +1 @ 2.08.  Celtic should have enough quality to win this game and if they get a goal in the first half then I expect them to easily beat the handicap, the longer County can hold on however the more nervous the Celtic fans and players will get.
