RAPID VIENNA – AUSTRIA VIENNA: PREDICTIONS

Wien Derby takes place so early in the season, just 3 games completed for both sides. Its sure to be another tough game in the 2^nd most played derby in European football.

Rapid Vienna have opened the season well with 2 wins and a draw.  Europa League progression also after a 2 legged win of Asteris of Greece. In the league Rapid have beaten Sturm away and drawn with Wolfsberger away too. At home they trounced Wiener Nuestadt 4-0 in a dominant display. Rapid sit in 2^nd position, 3 points behind RB Salzburg with this game in hand. Major problems for Rapid with a host of players likely missing.  Starting defender Max Hoffman is suspended, injured are midfielders Schimpelsberger, Wydra and attackers Alar and Strakl. No major losses there but doubtful also are attackers Dibon and Sibitzer.

Austria Vienna have not had the best of starts in the league but have progressed in Europe. In the league Austria Vienna have won 1 drawn 1 and lost 1. Beating Admira and drawing with Ried at home but have suffered a hammering at likely league winners Salzburg. A 5-1 loss at the title favourites shows how far behind the teams are chasing the big boys. In Champions League though Austria Vienna are at the playoff stage. A favourable draw saw a match with Icelandic Hafnarfjodur, the tie was tight but Vienna held on to go through 1-0 on aggregate and face a winnable tie v Dinamo Zagreb.  Almost a clean bill of health for Austria Vienna with squad man Thomas Simkovic the only doubt.

This game looks very likely to be a draw, I think at this stage of the season its not to different for either side. Austria Vienna lost already but they did face RB Salzburg who in truth are going to destroy pretty much every side in the league.
