Carlisle of League 2 face up to Derby of Championship in Capital One Cup. This cup is the 2nd most important cup in England football. A lot of teams don’t take it seriously until way into the competition. Here we have what in a competitive full strength match up would be a game in which Derby would be priced up around 1.40 – 1.50. Instead we get odds of 1.91 on Derby which is a general price. Its important to get a feel of the coaches here and see if they usually field weakened teams. Carlisle wont as they will need all the financial aid they can but they are a midtable League 2 team. Derby are expected to challenge for a playoff place at least in Championship. So maybe wont want the distraction of another set of games. Last year Derby played strong sides early on and beat Oldham and Brentford 1-0 and 5-0 respectively.
An early nibble on Derby here, odds have dropped as low as 1.72 (8/11) and for me even with a few fringe players they should be able to dispose of Carlisle. Derby can afford to rotate a fair few players here and not lose too much. Carlisle cannot and that will be the difference. Both sides played on Saturday, Carlisle losing 1-0 at home to Luton while Derby won 1-0 to Rotherham.
