TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

West Ham will be pleased with their start to the season but focusing on this game it is hard to read the intentions of manager Sam Allardyce. He usually shuns the cup competitions to give full focus to league aspirations. He may have shifted tack here though, with an almost fully fit squad he only has the loss of Andy Caroll. He has hinted at starts for Yossi Benayoun and Modibo Maiga, both players are a decent and together they lifted the quality in the weekend draw with Sunderland.
Wigan are set for a massive shake up of players as Martinez makes his priorities clear. League form has been off so far, although playing some good football they are very lightweight at the moment.  In will come fringe players Callum McManaman and Ryo Miyaichi as well as Albert Crusat, Mauro Boselli and Ben Watson. The team will try to keep the neat passing game together but they will be almost recognisable from the usual Wigan side.

1.90 on West Ham (StanJames) is the selection taken with the huge raft of changes Wigan are going to make. As they are in poor form anyway they would be hard pressed to get anything from The Hammers. Such wholesale changes to a team is asking for trouble and  West Ham can benefit. Both managers are not fans of the tournament but Sam Allardyce has the better back up players to take the tie.

West Ham on the -1 handicap at 2.64 is the selection (Pinnacle) West Ham have seen a lot of early money and are shortening all the time. With the superior squad and The Hammers likely to start a near fill strength side in order to gain a place in the last 16, they have to be the selection.
