TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Blackburn's mediocre season continues, another home defeat in fact their 6th of a poor season. New coach Michael Appleton failed to boost the players and indeed their good run under caretaker Gary Bowyer was the best run for quite a long time. The perfomance against Charlton on Saturday was a typical one. Players going through the motions and no real leadership on or off the field. The crowd turnout was very low and those that bothered to attend spent more time abusing the Venkys, who turned up to "support" the new appointment. Coach Appleton admitted the crowd has a real negative affect on the players and this is nothing new to us. Appleton has a full squad to choose from but he needs to look at players with character instead of the big names who have not been pulling their weight.

Brighton remain a really difficult team to beat but again they found themselves ending up with another draw. Eleven for the season now and they really need to convert chances and start picking up the wins again. At the weekend they travelled to a struggling Birmingham, despite falling behind early they dominated for long periods and did go into the half time break ahead. Brighton were well on top and only a late blunder by keeper Tomasz Kuszczak let Birmingham in to equalise. The big Polish stopper has been excellent all season though and Poyet was quick to absolve him of any blame. Brighton have lost only 2 games in 15 matches now and are a really tough side to get the better of, they do need to be more clinical however. This is still a problem for them and one they hope to have solved with the signing of Argentinian striker Leonardo Ulloa. Leading scorer Craig Mackail-Smith returned at the weekend and Brighton will improve surely with these two available.

Blackburn at home are not able to produce a performance, the crowd are always on their backs and players tend to hide. Appleton has already noticed this after 1 game and has spoken already about his desire to get everyone working together. Brighton on the other hand are playing with great style and are capable of top football. With two good strikers available they will be boosted again. This price should be nearer the 2.50 mark for me and is a decent bet.

Brighton at 0 is the selection here 2.07 (188bet) Brighton have the better side but only just. They have a top quality defence and when on song can be the best side in the division. Blackburn must be respected due to the abundance of quality within their ranks but at Ewood Park the side shrinks and gets abuse for 90 minutes. The atmosphere is counter productive and it is borne out by the fact they seem stronger on the road. Brighton do tend to draw too much though so we plump for the draw no bet market.
