MANCHESTER UNITED V CHELSEA PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS
The top tie from the FA Cup quarter finals sees two of England’s top clubs take the field for their 3rd meeting of the season, when league leaders Manchester United host Champions League holders Chelsea.
Manchester United top the Premier League with 71 points from 28 matches which gives them a 12 point lead over second place Manchester City. They have been in great form domestically with 7 straight wins but they faced a very tough Real Madrid side in the Champions League where they were beaten 2-1 at home this midweek. That loss and the controversial nature of it (disputed red card) could have United suffering a ‘European Hangover’ but with Chelsea also playing midweek and 48 hours after United no side will have an advantage here.
Chelsea are 4th in the EPL now and 2 points behind 3rd place Tottenham. They have a 5 point lead over Arsenal which it is imperative they hold onto, no Champions League place next season would be a disaster for the club.
This is Chelsea’s last chance of a domestic trophy so I expect them to put more resources into the match than United who may rest some players. The game will still be very competitive and both sets of players will be going allout to win so I wouldn’t let that cloud my decision too much.
MANCHESTER UNITED V CHELSEA PREDICTIONS: 1X2 BETTING PREVIEW
At 100% United would be strong favourites for this but we need to look at how the loss midweek affected them and whether they will rest some players here or not. Even if players are rested, Wayne Rooney, Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young could all come into the startling 11 and are arguably just as strong as the players who played midweek.
Chelsea also suffered midweek defeat and will have only 3 days to prepare for this after a long journey home from Romania. It will be Chelsea most affected with the midweek games I would think.
I’ll be backing a United win which is available at a very generous 1.83 with Paddy Power.
