SHEFFIELD UNITED – NOTTS COUNTY : PREDICTIONS

English football returns after the summer break with a game between two of the oldest sides in World football. Its England League 1 and its Sheffield United v Notts County at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United failed to make it out of tier 3 in England’s huge league system, failing at the playoff stages.  Coach Chris Morgan drops down to assistant manager and respected Scotsman David Weir gets his 1^st senior gig.  A couple of good early signings added to a quality squad see Blades tipped to go up this year. Sheffield United are joint 2^nd favourites for the league with only Wolves ahead of them.

Notts County are one of the oldest sides still in existence but the last few years have been worth forgetting. After finally getting out of the 4^th tier of England league system things looked a bit better but financial disaster is looming. A 12^th place finish last year was more than respectable but the loss of a few key men already means improvement may not be possible.

Sheffield United will be aiming for at least the playoffs and I expect them to have a big season, winning plently of home games as they usually do.  In five meetings over the last 2 years there have been 3 Sheffield wins and 2 draws.
