Arsenal v Aston Villa predictions and betting tips
Arsenal takes on Aston Villa at the Emirates as the Premier League season of 2013/2014 kicks off. Both sides have had a pretty good preseason. Since and including 2012 Arsenal has beat Aston Villa at home three out of three times. Wenger surely will try to continue that. I am sure Lambert has other plans though.
Arsenal has been in the hunt for top quality players this transfer window but so far no major deal has been concluded. Sanogo a very talented young striker, and Chu-Young are both capable players, but I doubt they’ll have much of an impact directly. Arsenal have doubts over Walcott, Ramsey and Sagna who took some knocks while on International duty. I expect Ramsey and Walcott at least to be back though. New signing Sanogo (from Auxerre will definitely sit out with a hamstring injury). Nacho Monreal and Thomas Vermaelen are also still injured. Edit: It seems Arteta is a doubt as well now.
Aston Villa has managed to keep hold of Benteke. They’ve added several promising youngsters to their squad as well. The very aggressive midfielder Yacouba Sylla (on the fringes of the first eleven looks set to miss this game). Another fringe player, Chris Herd (Central Defender/Midfielder) also looks set to miss.
Run of Play
Arsenal has completely dominated Villa possession wise the last two times they’ve played at the Emirates in the Premier League. I do however think Villa has a better side this time around, so they might be able to threaten the Gunners slightly more when they do get their chances. That said; this looks like a game where Arsenal will have about 60% of the possession, pretty much like last year.
Arsenal v Aston Villa betting tips for 1x2
Arsenal is a massive favorite at 1.36 (4/11). I can’t really see any reason why they shouldn’t give Aston Villa a tough time again with their fast paced, free flowing football. EDIT: I will not recommend backing Arsenal at 1.36 until the teamsheet is out given the many doubts surrounding the starting eleven.
Arsenal v Aston Villa betting tips for both teams to score
The goal threat of Arsenal is well documented. Villa has Benteke supported by Agbonlahor, Helenius and Weimann up front depending on how Lambert sees the game. I think they have plenty of pace for quick breaks too. The both teams to score price at BET365 is at 5/6 (1.83). I think that is really juicy and recommend a bet. EDIT: This bet looks even better now with all the doubts surrounding the Arsenal starting eleven at the minute.
Arsenal - Aston Villa betting tips for Asian Handicap
Given this:
1. A season opener,
2. Villa looks improved, and;
3. Arsenal still hasn’t gotten in a Golden Boot candidate
I am wary of taking the wide handicaps. However Arsenal -1 priced at 1.525 (13/25) looks a decent upgrade on the 1x2 odds.
Arsenal – Aston Villa betting tips for Total Goals
I think the added goal threat of Aston Villa tilts this to an automatic over 2.5 bet. The odds on offer are 1.57 (4/7). The over 3 goals line is 1.95 (19/20). I think it is ok to go for that one too. Remember you get your money back if the game ends with three goals exactly.
