Aston Villa v Man Utd predictions and preview: Betting stats
Aston Villa currently lie 17th in the Premier League with 9 points from their opening 10 games (W2 D3 L5). Recent form has reflected their overall record at DLLDW but last week’s win away at Sunderland will boost confidence. They have drawn their last two home games 1-1 after losing to Everton and beating Swansea. Their games average just 2.20 goals and only 2 have seen over 2.5 goals; 8 have had fewer.
Man Utd went top with victory last Saturday lunchtime and remain there on 24 points (W8 D0 L2). Their form is very good at LWWWW and they have the same record away from home this season, starting with a defeat against Everton and notching up 4 victories since. Their games have been full of goals at an average of 4 a game with just the 1-0 defeat to Everton seeing fewer than 2.5 goals.
The head-to-head at Villa Park is evenly matched at 28-21-28 but you have to go back to 1995 since Villa’s last home league victory against United. In the mean time they have played 16 times and scored just 6 goals. Last season’s fixture was a 1-0 Man Utd win, Phil Jones scoring the only goal.
Team News and Run of Play
Both sides have injury worries with Bennett, Bent and N’Zogbia all out for Villa with Dunne, Petrov and Gardner all long-term absentees. Baker and Herd may return. Man Utd have new injury worries in Nani and Evans as they were early withdrawals from the win against Braga on Wednesday. Fletcher will probably miss out while Kagawa and Jones are another fortnight from fitness. Vidic won’t return before Christmas.
Aston Villa’s season so far has been very poor. They seem to have been unable to settle under new manager Paul Lambert. The win last week would have been very welcome as without it they would have been a few points adrift of the rest of the league with the current bottom three. Despite not scoring goals their defence has been fairly tight, conceding just 5 goals at home, scoring 5 too.
Man Utd, despite never really firing on all cylinders, are top of the league and have already qualified top from their group of the Champions League. They have conceded as many goals as their hosts but scoring more than three times the goals is the difference. They seem to have the desire that you’d expect of a top side and should win this game; a clean sheet will be their main aim.
Aston Villa v Man Utd predictions: 1X2 betting preview
For me, Coral’s price of 1.57 on Man Utd is big. I would have had them nearer 1.45-1.50 and for me that represents real value. United are relentless in their dispatching of teams at the moment; even giving sides a goal headstart doesn’t seem to stop them. Their away wins have been against Southampton, Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea and it’s safe to say the last three of those sides are better than Villa and United should take all three points so the away win is the bet here.
Take Coral’s great price while you can!
Aston Villa v Man Utd predictions: Asian Handicap preview
For me, United should win this with ease. It’s not often you see a side like Man Utd win easily away from home this season but I think this is the sort of game they can win to nil. They should keep the fantastic momentum going that has seen them move top and if they win by more than one goal then a bet of Man Utd -1 at 1.91 with 188bet should see a much better return than the match market.
If you think United will win with ease, bet here.
Aston Villa v Man Utd predictions: Total Goals preview
This is a difficult one to call. I can’t see United being sloppy at the back like they have been in recent weeks but Benteke has found his scoring boots of late for Villa. I think they might just sneak a goal and regardless I can see Man Utd continuing their great goalscoring run that has seen them score 11 goals in their last 4 away games. Over 2.5 goals at 1.65 with bet365 is the bet here.
