Aston Villa v Newcastle predictions & betting tips

Aston Villa has played some pretty good football, but after three matches they only got three points. They have had tough opposition though in Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Newcastle definitely is a side Paul Lambert will feel he is on par with. Charles N’Zogbia is still out but defender Nathan Baker could be fit to feature after sitting out against Chelsea and Liverpool. Defender Antonio Luna has had a slight injury scare, but should be fit. Libor Kozak who signed from Lazio on deadline day could also feature to add more options up front to power house Benteke.

Newcastle is 1-1-1 so far in the Premier League. I would say they’ve been pretty much as expected given they’ve had some injury problems to cope with. Defender Steven Taylor and midfield giant Chieck Tiote are likely to feature after being injured. French midfielder Yohan Cabaye has ended his strike, so he could be given some minutes here. Gabriel Obertan (Striker) and Jonas Gutierrez (Midfielder) are doubts.

This looks like a fairly even tie to me. Aston Villa has definitely improved on last season when they lost this fixture 1-2. With the Newcastle players going in- and out of the treatment room makes it difficult to say anything about the real fitness level of the squad. But, by the looks of it they are set to improve with players coming back.

The market odds are a bit low on Villa in my opinion. They’ve struggled against Newcastle the last couple of seasons, and all though they’ve given some spirited displays and have a fine finisher in Christian Benteke I don’t see how they can be priced around 2.1-2.2 here. I assume the bookies think Villa will steam roll over Newcastle after playing three, on paper tougher opponents in the Premier League so far. Three games is too small a sample size for me. Especially when other factors do not support the bet!
