Chelsea are back from their disappointment at the Club World Cup where they lost 1-0 in the final against Corinthians.  They will feel the trip was a waste of time and effort, leaving them a game behind their rivals that they will have to catch up on later.  They returned to action midweek in the League Cup where they easily dispatched Leeds 5-1 to show they didn’t have a hangover from the trip.  They’ll be glad of the home game this weekend and will be hopeful of cementing their 3^rd place position over the Christmas period.

Villa have been on a fine run recently which has seen them unbeaten in 5 in the EPL.  They have climbed out of the relegation zone and are 3 points clear now in 14^th place.  The fans will be even happier with this run since it has come during a time of transition for the club where new manager Paul Lambert is bringing through a number of young players.  Last week’s win over Liverpool was the youngest first 11 Aston Villa had ever played in the EPL, exciting times for Villa fans.

Chelsea really need to get back to winning ways in the league if the fans are ever going to accept Rafa Benitez so this is a hugely important run of games for him and the team.
