Everton v Sunderland predictions and preview: Betting stats

Everton are sitting pretty in 4th in the Premier League so far on 17 points (W4 D5 L1) but are without a win in their last 4 games, drawing every one and form WDDDD has seen them lose touch with the leaders. At home they are unbeaten with wins against Man Utd and Southampton and draws with Newcastle and Liverpool. Their games average 3.20 goals with 7 over 2.5 and 3 under.

Sunderland have played one game fewer than their opponents but sit 16th on 9 points (W1 D6 L2). They also haven’t won in 4 games and form of WLDDL has seen Martin O’Neill put under pressure. Away from home they have drawn 4 games and lost to Man City. Their games have been very low scoring at 1.67 per game with just 2 seeing over 2.5 goals; 7 have had fewer.

Everton are 43-10-15 at home to Sunderland but recent years have seen a Toffee dominance. Sunderland’s last win against Everton was in 2001 and their last win at Goodison came in 1996. Last season this fixture ended 4-0 to Everton while Sunderland didn’t manage a shot on target.

Team News and Run of Play

Anichebe should return for Everton after illness but Gibson will probably miss out with a thigh strain. Titus Bramble remains out for Sunderland whilst McFadden is not yet match fit. Brown will be out until the New Year.

With recent 2-2 draws at home to Liverpool and away at Fulham you’d think David Moyes would be happy but the dominance Everton showed in the Fulham game would frustrate him that they weren’t able to take the win. They have seen higher possession in both these games but seem to have lost that winning spark they had at the start of the season. Fellaini is coming into form once again but they need goals from elsewhere.

Sunderland have scored 1 goal in October. This goal was scored by Demba Ba of Newcastle. It is plain to see why they are struggling. Form players of last season like Larsson and Sessegnon haven’t been as prominent and the reliance on Steven Fletcher was never going to go well if the striker came across a dip in form as he has over recent weeks.

Everton v Sunderland predictions: 1X2 betting preview

On form and overall results this season, these two look like draw specialists and you would think the draw might be the bet. However I think the lack of winning ability from Everton in recent weeks will only serve to increase their desire to get a win under their belt here. Sunderland won’t trouble their defence too much (like last season’s fixture) and I can see a home win here. 1.53 with Ladbrokes is the bet.

Everton v Sunderland predictions: Asian Handicap preview

Everton should be able to run this game and attack the flimsy Sunderland defence, currently missing a few key components. I think the bet here looks to be Everton -1. I can’t see them losing here and if they manage a comfortable win of two or more goals you win at better value odds of 1.85 with Pinnacle.

Everton v Sunderland predictions: Total Goals preview

Everton’s home games average 3.25 goals whilst Sunderland’s away games average just 1.80 but that is higher than their overall average. Of the 9 combined games the average is 2.44 and 5 have seen over 2.5 goals. I think this one is difficult to call but surely it’s time for a Sunderland player other than Steven Fletcher or Mr Own Goal to score! For me I can see a possible 3-1 Everton win so over 2.5 goals is the bet here at 1.91 with BetVictor.
