Liverpool is 3-2-0 in the Premier League after losing away to Manchester City and Chelsea in the Christmas period. At Anfield the Reds are 10-1-1 so far this season. Here LFC will still be without the defense minded players: Agger, Sakho, Enrique, Leiva and Johnson. Obviously this weakens the side. Gerrard has been playing a lot deeper lately with mixed results, and teams have gotten pay off when they've pressed the Liverpool backline. That said; Liverpool has improved on last season, where wins against top half teams were few and far between. This season they've done well against the sides competing with them for fourth in the Premiership. This much thanks to a superb offense led by Suarez and Sturridge. This Liverpool side surely feel they can outscore everyone.
Arsenal is top of the table having gone without a loss in the last eight Premier League match days. This Arsenal edition has been excellent away from home (8-2-2 so far) losing only to the two Manchester clubs. Flamini is still suspended, while Ramsay and Walcott are out injured. Wilshere and Arteta should be fit to play though after being doubtful. This is the first fixture out of three season defining fixtures for the Gunners. Over the course of 14 days they will play Liverpool, United and Bayern Munich.
I think Wenger will stress the Liverpool backline and he will surely be quite confident his side can find ways to outmanouvre Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.
The reverse fixture this season ended 2-0 for Arsenal. Liverpool was the best side early on, but Arsenal fought back. Especially Ramsay had a good night for the Gunners. Liverpool were never far behind though, and could have gotten something out of the game. Looking at the competitive games between the two at Anfield we have to go all the way back to 2008 to find a win for the home side. Last season Liverpool lost 0-2. The first half of the season was horrible for the Reds, and this game was no exception.
Betting tips
I do not see much between these two at Anfield. I think Arsenal is the better side this season. Liverpool has improved the most though! As a reference point, ponde this: both sides have recently played 1-1 away to WBA. Sorry LFC fans, betting Liverpool with their history against Arsenal at 2.20 and below just doesn't interest me. Especially after having seen Liverpool been beaten by all the teams above them on the table. To me the value is in the draw at 3.60. That is also where my money will be at.
