Liverpool v Manchester United predictions & betting tips

Liverpool has started their Premier League campaign very well. They won at home against Stoke, and followed that up with a win away to Aston Villa. These were matches Liverpool of recent years equally well could have ended up with two points in, so there is definitely improvement going on at Anfield. Liverpool needed 120 minutes of League Cup play to overcome Notts County this midweek though. After going 2-0 up, they let County back into the game. Brendan Rodgers will not be happy about that.

Liverpool will most likely have to do without Kolo Toure (Central Defender). He has been great so far with solid defending, and also being a threat up front on set pieces. Edit: Kolo Toure is deemed 50/50 for this game.

Aly Cissokho (Left back/Left Midfield) is probably sitting out too. Central Defender Martin Skrtl has been injured, but I do get the feeling Liverpool will do everything they can to get him fit here. Sebastian Coates, another Central Defender is out for the full season. Fringe Midfielder Joe Allen is probably out too. Should Liverpool fail to get Skrtl fit  in time; Daniel Agger most likely will be partnered by Andre Wisdom or Martin Kelly. Oussama Assaidi has gone out on loan to Stoke.

Manchester United opened really well away to Swansea (4-1 win). At Old Trafford against Chelsea the game ended 0-0. Manchester United should probably have had a penalty, and I think they were slightly better than their opponents on the night. They have no new injury worries, but Hernandez (Striker), Nani (wing), Fletcher (Midfielder) and Rafael (full back) are all still out.

Recent history

Since and including 2011 Liverpool has hosted Man United three times at Anfield Road. Liverpool has won two of them, but last year Manchester United grabbed all the points in a game Liverpool had to play almost an hour with ten men. Manchester United also won the reverse fixture last season.

Five out of the seven matches between the two since and including 2011 has gone Over 2.5 goals.

Liverpool v Manchester United betting tips & predictions

Both sides have energy and goal scoring flair in their offensive ranks. Liverpool can rack up Sturridge and Couthino while United can field van Persie and Rooney. In midfield I actually think Liverpool is a bit stronger than United here. At the back Liverpool will be slightly weakened, and I think Manchester United is better. Out of the two goalkeepers I think Mignolet beats de Gea any day.

All though Liverpool has some injuries, I only think the injury of Toure is a big concern. All in all Liverpool isn’t that much weakened in terms of the first eleven, and with an improved mentality and playing style as well as two out of three wins the last two years, 2.63 (13/8) with Bet365 for the home win is pretty impressive.
