Liverpool has had a very good preseason losing only to Celtic. A couple of days ago Liverpool played a friendly behind closed doors against Newcastle. That was a game Liverpool won 3-1. The good news seems piling up: Luiz Suarez has gone out saying he will stay with LFC this season. Well, we’ll see. The last word is probably not said in that transfer saga, but at least for now fortress Anfield house a wee bit less drama, allowing the stars focusing on the task at hand. Suarez will however be sitting out due to suspension. Downing, who had a good second half of last season was just sold to Westham days ago. On a brighter note: It looks like Sturridge is set for minutes here after playing 45 against Celtic and many more against Newcastle (Scoring twice from the penalty spot).

If Liverpool can keep hold of Suarez as well as Agger who is linked with Barcelona currently I believe in this side. If they can strengthen with a couple more quality players on top of the ones they brought in so far I think they will definitely be challenging for a top four place this season. Even third will be within reach!

Stoke predictions and info

Stoke has had a decent preseason too. They haven’t done much high profile business in the market, but Pieters, Muniesa and Edu has come in to strengthen the squad. Hughes is still in the market looking for players who can go straight into the first eleven; they just pulled out of signing striker Mame Diouf.

Stoke as of now looks a relegation candidate to me. I also have to be frank: Mark Hughes is a dinosaur of a manager in my book.

How the game will be played

Since and including 2012 the sides have met three times at Anfield. Twice it has ended 0-0, and once Liverpool won 2-1.  Liverpool dominated play on the pitch in all three matches. I can’t see this game being played much different. Stoke will try to rely on a strong, physical defense. Liverpool will have to take the game to Stoke. That they will! I will be surprised if Liverpool has less than 60% possession.

Liverpool now has creative offensive players such as Couthino, Aspas, Sterling, Sturridge and Ibe. When you have to unlock Premier League defenses the caliber of Stoke, this certainly helps! I think this Liverpool edition is a lot better than the one that took on Stoke in October 2012. To me Stoke looks about the strength of last season.

I am aware the two goalless draws of recent times are strong arguments against, but Stoke just doesn’t have enough offensive firepower to go toe to toe with this Liverpool edition.  I can’t see they have enough pace up front either to counter at blistering speed.
