Team News and Run of Play

Jack Rodwell may return to the fold for City but there will definitely be no return for Milner, Lescott and Richards. Aston Villa are an injury hit squad. They are without Bennett, Bent, Baker, N’Zogbia, Gardner, Petrov, Herd and Dunne and it seems that can only do to hurt their chances here.

Man City, like their Manchester neighbours, have made a habit this season of going behind against teams but still having the ability to come from behind and take victories. Against Spurs last week they battered their defence for extending periods of the game and it was inevitable when Edin Dzeko was introduced that he’d get the winner once again. It remains to be seen whether his form from the bench will get him a starting spot. I suspect they will have the patience to slowly break down a stern and stubborn Villa defence here.

Villa have been really lacking in creativity this season so far but last weekend they gave a really good account of themselves against Man Utd at Villa Park. A 2-0 lead was eventually squandered but on the break they really worried United and they will hope to do the same here and perhaps conserve energy by not chasing every loose ball up the field like they did on Saturday; it meant the second half was a struggle. They ended a poor away run last weekend but I can’t see it being consecutive away wins.

There isn’t much value in the match market but City’s price of 1.22 with Paddy Power looks about right. For me the Champions should easily overcome this test and it might simply be a case of by how many goals or if they concede first once again. A City win is the bet here but stay put for a better value bet.

City haven’t thoroughly dispatched a team for a while but for me this could be the changing point. Although Villa haven’t been thrashed in recent games either I can’t see them dealing with City attacking them for 90 minutes. I think the home side should win by two clear goals and therefore the value market is Man City -2 at 2.06 with 188bet. If they do only win by two goals you get your money back but I think they could embarrass Paul Lambert’s men.

The best price for over 2.5 goals is 1.50 and I think that doesn’t really represent much value so for me I think over 3.5 goals is the bet. 2.38 with Stan James is probably a bit big so I think backing that will see a much better return and 4 goals seems likely following on from the 5 goals Villa Park saw between the home side and City’s rivals last week.
