Manchester United v Chelsea predictions & betting tips

Manchester United opened with a strong win against Swansea away from home. Wayne Rooney came on as a sub in that game, but injured his Achilles he is a doubt here. Probably he wouldn’t play anyway as Mourinho has confirmed an interest in the striker. Young, Nani, Hernandez, Fletcher and Rafael are all out still too. Manchester United has so much squad depth though, they’ll be fine.

Chelsea has won both games they’ve played so far, but the win against Villa was probably a wee bit on the lucky side as Aston Villa were probing the Chelsea defense several times, John Terry clearly handballed in the box and Ivanovic should have been sent off minutes before scoring the 2-1 winner. David Luiz is a fitness doubt for this game.

Run of play

It will be tight, it will be aggressive and it will be played at high speed. Last season Chelsea won 1-0 at Old Trafford after Phil Jones scored a late own goal. In the reverse fixture Man United won 3-2, but it must be said they had over 30 minutes to play 11 against 9. United went 2-0 up before Chelsea clawed back to 2-2. The winner was scored in the 75^th minute.

I was a bit surprised to see Chelsea being cut open by Villa several times on Tuesday. If Villa could do that what can United do with creative players such as Robin van Persie, Welbeck, Valencia and Kagawa? Also, David Moyes is a tough nut old school guy. He will have made sure his squad is in tip top physical condition early on. Against a Swansea side that normally is tough to break down they were all over the place. If United can carry that spirit into this home game they’ll get the fans behind them and the game can swing their way easily.
