Newcastle v West Ham predictions and preview: Betting stats

Newcastle sit 10th in the Premier League having amassed 14 points from their opening 10 games (W3 D5 L2). Their recent form has been patchy with plenty of draws away from home (DLDWD). Their home record is equally inconsistent with narrow wins against Spurs, Norwich and West Brom intertwined with a draw against Villa and a defeat to Man Utd. Their games average 2.60 goals with half of their games exceeding 2.5 goals.

West Ham are ahead of their opponents by one place and one point (W4 D3 L3). Recently their form is pretty similar at WLWLD with the most recent result a very impressive 0-0 draw at home to Man City. Away from home they have just one win, with a draw and two defeats; all against teams struggling so far. Their games are slightly lower scoring at 2.40 but more games have seen over 2.5 goals; 6 in total; 4 have seen fewer.

At St James’ Park Newcastle have a 25-14-6 record against West Ham with the last meeting being in the 2010/11 season. The Magpies ran out 5-0 winners with a Leon Best hat-trick and current Hammer Kevin Nolan scoring one and assisting another.

Team News and Run of Play

Newcastle will be without suspended players Coloccini and Tiote while Danny Simpson is a doubt with a shoulder injury. Perch remains out whilst Vuckic and Ryan Taylor are long-term absentees. West Ham are facing a defensive crisis with Collins and Tompkins facing late fitness tests. If they miss out, Winston Reid is the only fit centre back for the Hammers. Taylor and Demel may return but Diarra, Vaz Te and Collison are all sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Newcastle are struggling with consistency this season and also struggling for goals; with Demba Ba having to provide most of the team’s goals. They have lost just one of their last five but in this period they have only picked up 6 points; proving they are struggling to put games away. The lack of Tiote to shore up the midfield and a natural leader in Coloccini at the back could lead to a lack of shape in the side.

West Ham have a real defensive injury problem and this could force Sam Allardyce into a reshuffle at the back. I think repeating that clean sheet of last weekend might be beyond them. They are yet to find too much consistency and I think they need their strikers to start scoring soon or they could face an uncertain top 10 status with some big games coming up.

Newcastle v West Ham predictions: 1X2 betting preview

I think this game is too close to call. These sides are next to each other in the table and both seem to struggle to get wins lately. I think however that Newcastle odds-against at home will always be a good bet. They have won well against Spurs and West Brom and with both of those teams in the top 6 they can be confident going up against a West Ham side with centre backs missing. The Newcastle win is 2.05 with Coral.

Newcastle v West Ham predictions: Asian Handicap preview

The bet here is Newcastle -0.5. However since no odds exceed those of the match market I think it’s best to stick to betting 1X2 to attain the best value for your bets.

Newcastle v West Ham predictions: Total Goals preview

Neither team here is particularly high scoring. Newcastle have scored just 6 goals at home whilst West Ham have scored just 3 away. The home games for Newcastle have averaged 2.4 goals and West Ham’s away games have seen 2.25 on average so it looks to me like under 2.5 goals at 2.09 with Pinnacle is the bet.

Take this price if you can’t see too many goals.
