Reading v Norwich predictions and preview: Betting stats

Reading are without a league win so far this season and are 18^th with 5 points from their first 9 games (W0 D5 L4). Recent form has seen just one defeat in the last five games so 4 draws (DDLDD). At home they have 3 draws and one defeat from their opening 4 games. Their games average 3.33 goals and 5 have seen over 2.5 goals; 4 with fewer.

Norwich have recently found some form and are 14^th with 10 points (W2 D4 L4). Their only wins have come in the last 3 games (LLWDW) but they are yet to win away, suffering heavy defeats to Fulham and Chelsea in the process. Their games have seen fewer goals at 2.6 per game and just 3 over 2.5 goals; 7 have seen under.

At home Reading are 3-1-4 against Norwich but this is the first top flight meeting between the two sides. 2 seasons ago they played in the Championship and at the Madejski, between two very different teams, the game finished 3-3.

Team News and Run of Play

Danny Guthrie remains out with a hip injury while Jem Karacan will be out for a while yet with a knee injury. Russell Martin and Harry Kane are nearing fitness but will probably not be back this weekend for Norwich.

Reading, despite scoring a few goals, are conceding even more. Not winning in the first 10 games is not how they would have liked to start this season but it may be an expected trend. I think they will get wins eventually but they might not secure enough to survive in the league.

Norwich have recently done well with consecutive home wins sandwiching an admirable away draw with Villa. I think they have been fairly unlucky in their fixtures away so far with some in-form teams hosting the Canaries and not allowing them a win so far. For me Norwich need Grant Holt to continue his recent scoring record if they want to continue moving up the table.

For me this game will be very close. I don’t imagine Reading have had a better chance to get a first victory at home and Norwich will probably feel they also have the chance to get a first win away. With both sides going for the win I can see a bit of a stalemate so I’ll be betting the draw here at 3.60 with Stan James.
