SOUTHAMPTON V CHELSEA PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

This all Premiership clash is one of the best ties of the round and should be an exciting match. Southampton are still fighting for their Premier League survival and are in 17^th place, even on points with 18^th placed Wigan. They have drawn 3 straight matches and have some tough EPL matches upcoming so they may well fall into the relegation zone.

For Southampton their only goal this season is survival and they won’t be worried about an FA Cup run if it will have a negative effect on their league matches. I’d expect them to rest a number of their top players in anticipation of the visit to Aston Villa next week.

Chelsea are 14 points off leaders Man Utd in the EPL and will have to content themselves with a top 4 spot and Champions League participation next year. The FA Cup is their best chance of a domestic trophy this year and they’ll be willing to play a fairly strong team to ensure they go through to the next round. New signing Demba Ba could make his debut in this match trained with the team on Friday and may well start the match.

Chelsea are strong favourites here despite being the away side. The market seems to agree with me that they will be taking the match more seriously than their opponents who will have all their focus on league survival.

The odds aren’t great but a Chelsea win at 1.70 with Paddy Power still seems like value to me.
