Southampton v Sunderland predictions & betting tips

Southampton looked good in their away win against WBA on match day 1 in the Premier League. They were more composed defensively and going forward we know they are a handful. Even better yet, I hope you were on my 2.20 betting tip for Southampton, draw no bet. Good money was made! Since their Premier League season opener, the very talented Pablo Osvaldo has joined them from Roma.

Sunderland lost 0-1 at home against Fulham in a very tight game where they had deserved to get a point at least. The Fulham defense was top notch, and what they couldn’t deal with Steklenburg was brilliant between the sticks. My betting tips were the draw and the Under 2.5 goals. At least we avoided a big loss there. Since last weekend Charis Mavrias just joined the squad on transfer from Panathinaikos.

Southampton – Sunderland betting tips

Last season these two sides played very tight games. The game at St. Mary’s ended with a Sunderland 1-0 win. Southampton dominated the first half, but was really poor in the second. Sunderland had no problems stopping what Southampton had to offer. Out of 12 total shots only 2 were on target for the Saints. On a brighter note; Southampton had 58% of the possession, was considerably better in the air and had a higher completed pass stat. 

Both teams have improved their squads, and have no major fitness issues. Both sides like to play on the floor using short passing, and this should be yet another very tight game.

As you've probably understood; I have a really hard time separating these sides. Both look pretty good defensively now, and the both have very decent forward lines. Southampton will probably take the game to Sunderland, but fade away like usual. The odds for the home win are only around 7/10 (1.70) and I can’t imagine there is any value to be had in those. I much rather go for the draw here. The draw is my betting tip and it is priced at a mouthwatering 3.75 (11/4).
