Tottenham v Chelsea predictions & betting tips

Tottenham is in fine form in the Premier League with four wins out of five, and only one goal conceded. AVB rotated his squad in midweek, but Spurs were still very much in the driving seat against a much weakened Aston Villa. It will be interesting to see if Defoe will play again as he has been very dangerous in front of goal whenever he has been given a chance this season. Here Danny Rose is likely to be fit again also. Younes Kaboul, Etienne Capoue and Aron Lennon are still injured.

Chelsea is 3-1-1 so far in the Premiership. Mourinho has said he still doesn’t know his best eleven, and I am still not convinced Chelsea are good enough in the final third when they meet quality opposition at the minute. Here the energetic Ramires is a doubt, and his likely replacement box to box midfielder van Ginkel is injured too.

Both sides have a tough fixture list with Premier League, European Cup football and the League cup jammed in over the space of two weeks.

Since and including 2011 two out of three outings on the Lane have ended in a draw. The third was won by Chelsea.

Tottenham v Chelsea betting tips

I can’t imagine Mourinho will go for the jugular off the bat here. Spurs are just too strong these days. He will have to set up his side for counter attacks. Obviously, with the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Mata (if Mourinho actually plays him) they would always be a threat. Defensively Chelsea still brings a lot to the party, so Spurs will have a tough test on their hands.

From the odds available I go for the draw. Bet365 offers 3.30 (23/10) and given the tight nature of games like these I think those odds are a couple of tenths above par.

I would also like to cover a bit on the Spurs win. They just seem rock solid, and are a better side at this very point in time than Chelsea. The way I do that is by taking Spurs, draw no bet priced at 1.90 with Bet365. If the game ends a draw we get the money back.

Bet365 also has 2.10 (11/10) for X at Half Time. Spurs has been a second half team, and Chelsea too hasn’t really been stepping on the pedal off the bat. Of course, in a derby game like this it can be one of those days where the tempo is over the hills crazy, but it can also turn out very cagey. I think 2.10 for the X at HT at least is very good!

Gylfi Sigurdsson has been really good for Spurs, and has been rested in midweek. The Icelandic has a lot of energy in his game and knows where to goal stands. He is not guaranteed a place in the starting eleven here, but at 4.33 (10/3) I am willing to take a gamble on him scoring in this match on one of his surging runs.
