West Brom v Chelsea predictions and preview: Betting stats
West Brom are currently 5th in the Premier League and have picked up 20 points from their opening 11 games (W6 D2 L3). Their form dipped a few weeks ago but they have recorded back-to-back wins including a first away victory to rectify this (WLLWW). At home they have been superb and won 5 of their 6 games so far, with the only defeat coming at the hands of Man City. Their games have average 2.64 goals and 6 have had over 2.5; 5 have seen fewer.
Chelsea are currently 3rd on 24 points with a record of W7 D3 L1 but that solitary defeat and 2 of the 3 draws have come in the last 3 games which has been a bit of a dip in form (WWLDD). Away from home they are unbeaten and have beaten Arsenal and Spurs on the way to picking up 3 victories and drawing twice.
West Brom actually have a winning record of 19-11-18 at the Hawthorns against Chelsea and last season picked up a 1-0 victory. However this was the first victory since 1979 and in between, at both the Hawthorns and Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have a record of 14-0-0 including some resounding victories.
Team News and Run of Play
West Brom have injury worries of their keeper Ben Foster and defender Steven Reid. Chelsea are thankful John Terry’s injury wasn’t as serious as it first looked but his status for this weekend is as of yet unknown; Cole and Lampard will once again miss out.
West Brom’s home form has been scintillating this season but it must be added that apart from the victories against Liverpool and Everton their wins have been against the bottom 3, all of whom are struggling away from home. Last week’s first away win will have boosted their confidence no end and James Morrison was particularly impressive in his performance. For me they will be hugely tested here but who knows, they may sneak a result.
Chelsea, despite a dip in form, are still the most potent attacking force in the league for me. Despite a misfiring striker they remain one of the top scorers in the league and that is thanks surely to the 3 man attacking midfield they have playing week-in-week-out. I do however think they’ll miss the senior English players in their squad who are all out injured. Terry, Cole and Lampard have been mainstays of the Chelsea team in recent years and I think without Terry their defence looked shaky in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend.
West Brom v Chelsea predictions: 1X2 betting preview
This is an extremely difficult game to call. On one hand you have a team in form and full of confidence which for once isn’t Chelsea; on the other you have Chelsea, a side who are as creative as any other in the league. I think Chelsea will take the victory here but it will be tight and won by a solitary goal, probably late on in the match. The away side are 1.95 for the win with bet365.
If you think the Blues will beat the Baggies, bet here.
West Brom v Chelsea predictions: Asian Handicap preview
Chelsea -0.5 is the same price as the match market and for me that represents the easier market to bet on a sportsbook site so stick to the 1X2 for now and if you agree with my prediction then back Chelsea.
West Brom v Chelsea predictions: Total Goals preview
West Brom’s home games have averaged 2.66 goals while Chelsea’s away games have seen 2.60 goals. It isn’t an easy one to call but for me I think West Brom might grab a goal and in this case Chelsea will need two to win it and therefore I think over 2.5 goals at 1.73 with Ladbrokes is the bet here.
