Bordeaux is a stable top eight side in Ligue 1. Monaco was recently promoted from Ligue 2, but as you all know, the owners have injected enormous amounts of cash and racked up several world beaters coached by the experienced Italian Ranieri.

Bordeaux recently lost the Super Cup (1-2) to PSG. After going up one nil in the first half they had to see PSG dominate the game and win deservedly at the end. Other than that it is worth noticing six out of their seven preseason games went over 2.5 goals. In general their preseason results were so mixed it is hard to draw any conclusions.

In terms of transfers it is worth mentioning left back Benoit Tremoulinas has left. Lucas Orban has been brought in from Tigre (Argentina) to replace him. A few others have left, but the replacements look OK. I expect Bordeaux to be slightly weaker this season compared to 2012/2013, but think it will be mid table for them again this season still.

Here the solid Carlos Henrique (Central Defender) is out suspended. Central Midfielder Gregory Sertic is out injured. Fringe midfield players Faubert and Traore are out too.

What can one say? Monaco has brought in world stars in Falcao (Striker), Rodriguez (Attacking Midfielder/Forward) and Mouthino (Central Midfielder). Other fine players such as:  the experienced Abidal (Left Back/Central Defender), Carvalho (Central Defender) and Toulalan (Defensive Midfield) has arrived. Young talents such as: Monachello (Forward), Martial (Forward), Lopez  (Defender) and Isimat-Mirin (Central Defender).

It will of course take some time to make this newly composed side gel, but in their last three preseason friendlies Monaco has impressed. They were much better than Spurs recently in a game they won 5-2.

Bordeaux are tough to beat at home. In the last three seasons they haven’t lost at home more than on average 3.67 times. Monaco is of course of a few teams who can go to Bordeaux and expect a win. I am just not sure they are gelled enough yet. It will all be down to the odds! Monaco is priced at 3/2 (2.50) with BET365 on the 1X2. I think that is worth a test because:

1.       Monaco has improved as preseason has gone on

2.       Ranieri is no stranger to making star material work together, and quickly!

3.       I doubt 2.50 (3/2) will be available for many Monaco games this season at all

4.       Bordeaux has made a habit of selling their best players the last few years and I am not convinced about the replacements they’ve brought in
