LILLE V MARSEILLE PREDICTIONS   

This is by far the most expected game of this Ligue 1 round.

Lille has done an incredible come back on top of the table with their 6 wins in the last 7 games. They are standing in 5^th position with 52 points and could potentially end up this week on the podium if they win. This is now a very likely possibility as Lyon and St-Etienne are far from being in Lille’s shape. Last week, Lille hammered Lorient 5-0, which is always good in case they needed even more confidence.

Marseille managed to steal Lyon’s 2^nd spot, and they know this game might be one of the most important of their whole season. If they win, they will probably keep this 2^nd position until the end of the season, but if they lose, Lille would come back just 2 points away. And 2 points to catch up with 6 games left to play would be quite an easy challenge for Lille. When playing away, Marseille has a 8-3-5 record with only one win in the last 5 trips.

Marseille’s best player this season, Mathieu Valbuena, has missed last week’s game and is still very questionable for this one. Even if they managed to win without him against Bordeaux, this would be a huge handicap against a much better squad.

Marseille won their first head to head this season, 1-0 with a 46^th minute from Jordan Ayew. Lille’s midfield Florent Balmont received a red card just before half-time.

I don’t believe Marseille will be able to take the 3 points here, and I’m not sure they will even really try. They would be happy with a draw as they know the level of their game is far behind what Lille has shown the last couple months.
