Lyon and Nice were 3^rd and 4^th in Ligue 1 last season. Only three points separated the two sides then. Lyon won 3-0 at home in a game that was more even than the result indicates and saw a sending off for each side. In Nice it ended 1-1. Can Lyon maintain their edge over Nice? Read on!

Lyon info and predictions

Lyon has made a habit of developing players and selling them. This transfer window has seen players such as the extremely talented youngster Martial head to Monaco and Lovren (Central Defender) to Southampton. They’ve brought in the skillful and experienced left back Bedimo from Montpellier and even more experienced Danic (Left sided attacking midfielder) from Valenciennes.  Miguel Lopez (Right back) has been lent from Sporting.

In preseason so far Lyon has looked pretty solid. Tight at the back and capable of scoring as well! They have played Champions League qualification too, and won 1-0 both home and away against Grashoppers.

Overall I think Lyon looks at about the same strength as last season. I expect them to fight with a strong looking Marseille for the positions behind PSG and Monaco.

Nice info and predictions

Rock solid central defender Civelli has left for Bursa. Other than that there have been no high profile transfers for Nice so far. In their last two friendlies they’ve had tough opposition in Benfica and Lazio. Both matches were lost by a margin of one goal.

I think last season probably was as good as it could get for this Nice side, and they’ll be back to their more usual average self this season.

I think Lyon has a lot going for them at the minute. They’ve made some shrewd business and they surely have higher tempo in their bodies having played competitive Champions League football. Nice is absolutely no walkover, but will struggle to replicate last season. Missing Civelli is also a blow to their central defense. I go for Lyon -1 priced at 13/10 (2.30). Lyon for me just looks overall solid all across the pitch. I can’t see what Nice possible can bring to this party. Obviously Lyon can win by only one goal, but at least then we get our money back.

First things first: Five out of the last six between these two sides have gone over 2.5. I do however think Nice will focus greatly on defense here, and Lyon has really been tight at the back in preseason. I think it will be very difficult for Lyon to go on a scoring rampage unless they bang in a couple of early goals. I don’t find that scenario very likely. The Under 2.5 is priced at ¾ (1.75) and that is more than plenty for me. Good odds, good bet!
