The star studded team of Monaco will host Montpellier in this second round match of Ligue 1. Monaco brought in lots of new quality players to this season and are expected to fight for league title against main rivals PSG. Montpellier have not been as successful in the transfer market, their biggest transaction being the sale of Belhanda to Dynamo Kiev, and they will most likely be found around the middle of the table this season.

Monaco started the season with a 2-0 win away to Bordeaux. The goals were scored by Riviere and Falcao. Man of the match was left defender Kurzawa, and new signings Falcao and Abidal delivered solid performances. In general Monaco were effective, mainly through individual skill, and they had 49% possession and scored two goals on thirteen attempts (and won shots on target stats 6-2).

Montpellier’s first match of the season was a tough match at home against PSG, a match that ended in a tie 1-1 after good defensive work by Montpellier. PSG equalized in the 60th minute, but they were unable to score the winning goal despite the fact that Kaoutari for Montpellier was sent off after 72 minutes.

Monaco will be missing Dirar due to injury, and forward Germain and defender Raggi are doubtful – but these did not play last match so Monaco is just as strong as last match. Montpellier will miss centre-back Kaoutari due to his red card in the season opener, plus central defensive midfielder Saihi is out with knee injury.
