This is the third round Ligue 1 match between Monaco and Toulouse. Monaco won Ligue 2 last season and they are expected to fight for the league title this season, against main rival PSG. They have started the season in solid fashion by winning their two matches so far, Bordeaux 2-0 away and Montpellier 4-1 at home. Last match against Montpellier they dominated possession-wise (61%) and were effective scoring four times on thirteen attempts. Their star striker Falcao opened the score sheet after a penalty in the 18th minute, but it was attacking midfielder Riviere that got all the attention by scoring the next three goals. Monaco’s best players were, in addition to Rivere, left attacking midfielder Ferreira-Carrasco and central defensive midfielder Toulalan.

Toulouse finished in tenth position last season and this season most expect them to finish around mid-table once more. They have started this season without a win, first losing away to Valenciennes 3-0 and then drawing 1-1 at home in the derby against Bordeaux. Against Bordeaux they had 58% possession and won the attempts and shots on target stats (12-8 and 6-4), but they were caught offside quite often and made several individual errors. To top it off, Bordeaux got a man sent off after just 28 minutes, but Toulouse did not manage to profit on this. The man of the match was Bordeaux goalie Carrasso. Forward Basat scored the goal for Toulouse, and best Toulouse performance was made by central midfielder Didot.

Last fixture between the teams came in 2011 when Toulouse won 2-0 at home. Last six encounters ended with two Monaco wins, three draws, and one Toulouse win – although Monaco’s new financial situation and spending spree makes these results somewhat less relevant.

Monaco are running in good form, if you include preseason friendlies then they have won the last five matches with a total goal difference 16-5. Looking at Toulouse the situation is quite different, last five matches ended in four ties and one loss, and goal diff 3-6. Toulouse do have some other worrying stats in the latest games, they concede quite a lot of attempts on goal (average 14 so far this season) – and considering Falcao having scored two goals in two matches, and Riviere having scored four, Toulouse will be in trouble.
