Nantes finished third in Ligue 2 last season and are expected to fight hard against relegation this season. After two matches they are currently in fifth place, with one win and one loss. They won their first match of the season 2-0 at home against Bastia, and the second match was lost 2-1 away to Lorient.  Against Bastia Nantes had only 34% possession, but they were effective scoring twice on three shots on target, and Bastia had only nine attempts and no shots on target despite their 66% possession. Playing away to Lorient Nantes had 37% possession and created seven attempts, two of which were on target.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are the Ligue 1 title holders, and currently the favourite to win this season also. They have not started the season that well, currently in 13th place with two draws in two matches. The pressure is on for PSG to perform better in order to stay in the title race. But last season PSG’s first win came in round four, and Monaco played yesterday only 0-0, so with a win in this match PSG are still on track. PSG played 1-1 away to Montpellier in the first match, and 1-1 at home to Ajaccio in the second match. Against Montpellier they had 70% possession, created twelve attempts and four shots on target. Montpellier had only six attempts and one shot on target, yet still got away with a draw. Against Ajaccio PSG dominated possession even more with 81%, they created a whopping 37 attempts and 15 shots on target. Yet Ajaccio got a draw after only one attempt and one shot on target.

The last time Nantes hosted PSG was a friendly in 2009, PSG won 2-0. The last six encounters have ended with five PSG wins and one draw, half of the matches ended over 2.5 goals. In fact you have to go back to 2004 before finding a Nantes win over PSG.

Coming in to this match Nantes have no new injury worries. Their important midfielder Veretout will be back again after suspension and this will be a great plus for them. PSG have few injury worries, but attacking midfielder Menez is out (did not play so far this season), and defensive midfielder and French international Matuidi is most likely out due to head injury (he played both matches this season).
