Toulouse v Bordeaux predictions and betting tips

This Ligue 1 second round match is the Derby de la Garonne between Toulouse and Bordeaux. Last season the teams performed similarly, Bordeaux ending up on 7th place four points ahead of Toulouse on 10th. This season they are expected to finish in a quite similar fashion – Bordeaux on the top half most likely below the Champions League and Europa League spots, and Toulouse somewhere middle of table.

Both teams got off to a bad start this season, Toulouse losing 3-0 away to Valenciennes and Bordeaux losing at home 2-0 to Monaco. Toulouse had 54% possession in their match, but managed only one shot on target, their defender Spajic got a red card after 35 minutes and Valenciennes were simply better after that. Meeting Monaco in the season opener is no easy feat, and Bordeaux did not succeed as Monaco’s individual player skills proved too much. Bordeaux had 51% possession and favoured through balls, creating eleven attempts (all of which came via open play), but only managing two shots on target.

This fixture last season ended in a goalless draw, both teams poor at finishing. Toulouse had the most possession (56%) and slightly more attempts and shots on goal. Going into this match, Toulouse will be missing Zebina that is still out with injury since end of last season. Bordeaux will be without Faubert, Rolan, and Orban due to unjuries. Forward Diabate that played in the season opener was doubtful, but is in the squad. Sertic is still under rehabilitation, and attacking midfielder Jussie handed in a transfer request and is therefore frozen out.

This is a derby and as neither team is much better than the other, we can expect a tough match. I find value in the away win and Asian handicap, my bets are both with Bet365: Bordeaux win at 9/4 (3.25) and Bordeaux +0.25 at 1.80
