BIELEFELD – UNION BERLIN: PREDICTIONS

Bielefeld host Union Berlin in what looks a great game at Bielefelder Alm.

Bielefeld of North Rhine-Westphalia are one of the biggest yo-yo clubs in Germany.  Continually bouncing up and down between Bundesliga 1 and 2; winning promotion a record 7 times over the recent years.  Bielefeld went from the top league all the way down to League 3 after a disastrous run and amid financial troubles. They were in the regional leagues until last season when they grabbed promotion with runners up position. Bielefeld opened up with a poor result, losing 2-0 at Greuther Furth. The game was over within 10 minutes as the home side scored twice, Bielefeld where never in the game at all.

Union Berlin are one of the top sides still in circulation from the old East Germany. Playing in Bundesliga 2 they have survived a few near financial disasters and have finally seen light at the end of the tunnel. They are on an even keel now and will look to consolidate over the next few years. They have no major titles but do have a silver medal as runners up in German Championship but that was way back in the 1920’s. Union Berlin played well in their 1^st match and were in a close game with Bochum. At 1-1 it looked a fair result but they conceded a sloppy late goal and lost all three points.

Both sides has poor opening results but Union Berlin at least gave a performance.  Bielefeld are strong relegation favourites and will be outsiders in most games this season. Its going to be hard to predict results in the early rounds so I am sticking with the goal markets. Both Teams To Score at 1.72 (bet365) looks good here as this game looks good for goals. Bielefeld will at least be expected to attack at home while Berlin have been packed with goals preseason.
