Borussia Dortmund has five wins and one draw so far this season, and is just two points behind leader Bayern Munich before this round (Bayern won yesterday so currently they are five points behind). They started the season very well with five consecutive wins, and it was not until this Wednesday they gave away some points, when they somewhat surprisingly only managed a draw away to Hoffenheim. They have done ok in the Europa League as well, beating Krasnodar last week. That was a match where Dortmund fielded a strong team, but had to work hard for the win as the Russians took the lead early and fought hard. Next week Dortmund is travelling to Greece to face off with PAOK.

There are no new injuries reported for Dortmund since last match. Of the players that are unavailable it is expected that the defender Subotic still will not be ready to play. The defender Durm is still not available. There were also been some doubts over Schmelzer (another defender) earlier in the week, but he is expected to be ready. Dortmund has no players suspended.

The newly promoted Darmstadt is surprisingly high in the league table with nine points after six matches, and the stats 2-3-1 and 6-7 in goal difference. They started the season with three draws against Hannover, Schalke and Hoffenheim, and the only loss so far came against Bayern Munich. The wins came against Leverkusen (away), and on Tuesday this week they beat Werder Bremen 2-1 at home (although the winning goal came in the 84th minute of the match). Darmstadt has no new injuries or suspensions to report. Yannick Stark (midfield) and Patrick Platins (goalie) are getting closer to being match fit, but it is doubtful they will play today.

Dortmund should without a doubt take control of this match, and we could see around 70% possession. We know that Dortmund is really good in offence, but they are also conceding goals. If you look at their last eight matches, they have conceded at least one goal in six of them (three of them one goal, three of them two or more goals). And we did notice that they struggled with breaking down the Ingolstadt defence in an earlier match, it was not until Ingolstadt risked going forward that they got the goals against them. Darmstadt knows that they have to park the bus in defence and that they will have to take advantage of the opportunities to counter-attack. Darmstadt lost 0-3 at home to Bayern, and I do not think they will be able to resist the pressure from Dortmund either. But in order to get decent odds on Dortmund the line is around -2.25/-2.50, and that is quite a high line even for Dortmund. My strategy is therefore to watch this match live, and if there is still 11 versus 11 players and 0-0 or 1-1 (and Dortmund is playing well in attack as usual), and the line is down to -1.75, then I will be looking for a bet of around 1/1 (2.00).
